This International Women’s Day, while I’d love to provide you with an update from last year’s blog (spoilers: nothing has changed and, in some places, it’s even gotten worse), there’s enough happening in the world that drags us down that it might just be time for that fluff piece I was so against writing last year.

Here’s the thing. When it comes to the women who work at Snaptech, we are far from fluffy. We dominate this company and outnumber the men 10 to 7. Our web developer is a woman. The majority of our SEO team are women. Four of us started as interns at Snaptech and impressed the team enough to be offered full-time positions. We’ve then worked our way up to hold senior titles. While it may look a bit questionable from the outside, having our heads of department all being men, it’s mostly because of where people were at in their careers when our previous Director of Marketing (also a woman) stepped down.

Anyway, I’m not here to defend the company from anyone; I’m here to highlight the women who work at Snaptech, the ones who bring their best to the table every day and help make Snaptech the incredible team that it is. We call ourselves the Ladies of Snaptech, LofS, or Loafs, but really, I think we are selling ourselves a bit short. So, without further ado, here are some of us (not all of us, ain’t nobody got time for that).

Sasha on a hike

Sasha Watkins, Account Executive

Sasha is one of the first faces you’ll see if you’re a new client at Snaptech. Her caring and clever sales techniques help bring clients in the door and show them what Snaptech is all about. She’s tenacious, talented, and an amazing role model for anyone looking to work in sales.

What made you want to work in marketing?

I distinctly remember a science class in elementary school where we had to invent something and then create a commercial to sell it. I was completely obsessed! Not just with the invention, but with the art of convincing. Even back then, I loved learning how to sell an idea, even if that idea was persuading my mom that ice cream before dinner made perfect sense.

Who are you outside of Snaptech?

Outside of Snaptech, you’ll usually find me trail running with one of my dogs while taking pictures of mushrooms, spending time with my family or doing creative projects on the side. I’m endlessly inspired by strong women who trust their voice, own their ambition and lead with both heart and conviction.

Steph Wan, Paid Media Manager

Steph started as an intern at Snaptech and has steadily risen to her current position due to her incredible work ethic and desire to continue learning new skills. She’s a compassionate leader, imparting her knowledge to interns and new employees while still providing guidance to the rest of the team.

What made you want to work in marketing?

I didn’t originally set out to work in marketing. My background is in science, but I wanted to try something different and a bit more creative. A few friends suggested I give digital marketing a try, and it turned out to be a really good fit because it blends strategy, data storytelling, and measurable results. I applied for an internship while I was finishing up university, and that experience helped me realize I really enjoyed the work (and the constant learning never stops).

Who are you outside of Snaptech?

Outside of Snaptech, I’m a big-time food lover. If you want to win me over, it’s pineapple buns (always with butter), bubble tea (rose milk tea is my go-to), and ice cream! I love a cozy night in, but I’m always down for an adventure, and I really value spending quality time with friends and family. Fun fact: Ma langue maternelle est le français!

Mik Browett, Senior Digital Marketing Strategist

Whether it’s diving into an SEO audit or flexing her skills with social media, Mik brings her best to every task. She was also a Snaptech intern and has grown her marketing skills with us over the years to help train new interns every year.

What made you want to work in marketing?

I was freshly out of high school and, in all honesty, my choice was a blind shot at a dart board for choosing a post-secondary program. Which, looking back, was likely a little rushed. However, it appears my underdeveloped brain was more on the dot than I realized. I remember on my first day of classes, hearing the introductions, the excitement of entering post-secondary, and having this overall feeling of “this is it.” You hear this a lot, but it will always be true for me that I love the blend of creativity and data. Coming to understand that everything, down to the colour chosen in branding, serves a purpose was exciting to me. As I have spent the last 6 years building my knowledge and experience, I feel confident in knowing this is the right industry for me, and I am excited to see where marketing goes in the coming years.

Who are you outside of Snaptech?

In my spare time, you will usually catch me in the kitchen. I have an obsession with cookbooks; it is my favourite genre to read to improve my own skills. I have recently taken up baking cakes as a hobby, and I hope to learn more and get better at it over time. I even started an Instagram account to track my progress. Other than that, most of my time is spent with my loved ones, whom I value so much, watching trashy reality TV (Vanderpump Rules forever), reading, knitting or crocheting, going to the gym, or going outside with one of my various film cameras. I try to keep busy and switch it up as much as I can. But more importantly, I love a good rot day on Sundays.

Isabel Balagat, Paid Media Strategist

Like many of the women at Snaptech, Isabel’s title doesn’t completely reflect her position on the team. She started as an intern and impressed everyone so much that we begged her to stay on, even as she continued furthering her marketing education. Isabel works in both the paid media and SEO departments and is always looking into new ways to dive deep into data and expand her knowledge, as well as the rest of the team’s, as she leads by example.

What made you want to work in marketing?

Early in my career, I studied Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design) at BCIT after my portfolio didn’t quite make the cut at Emily Carr. Years later, when I had the chance to go back to school as an adult student, I found myself at a crossroads. I could specialize in UX Design (which felt like a natural extension of my design background), or I could shift to marketing.

I chose marketing because I wanted to understand why decisions were being made, not just how to execute them. What I didn’t fully realize then was how closely UX and marketing actually overlap. Both are about reducing friction, anticipating needs, and creating experiences that feel intuitive and delightful, no matter where someone is in their journey with a brand.

Who are you outside of Snaptech?

Outside of work, I’m into travelling, design, sustainability and home organization. I have a pact with myself to visit at least one new place every year. The last place I visited that really inspired me was Desa Potato Head in Bali. I’m hoping to visit Japan again, though – particularly the 11-storey Muji flagship store and the Teamlab museum in Tokyo.

Moon Aung, Paid Media Specialist

As with many of the women at Snaptech, Moon started as an intern and is the definition of practice makes perfect. If there’s a skill she wants to develop, she works hard until she masters it. She always has a positive outlook and is enthusiastic about trying new things, making her an absolute delight to talk to every day.

What made you want to work in marketing?

I initially studied accounting in college, but I took marketing as a minor and quickly realized how interesting it was. I was drawn to how marketing blends the psychology of understanding why people make decisions while also using data analysis to measure and guide them.
When I switched my program to Marketing, I explored the different areas within the field. Paid media stood out to me the most because it allows me to combine both sides: analyzing performance data and making strategic decisions, while also considering messaging and audience behaviour. I enjoy looking at the numbers, identifying patterns, and using data to continuously improve results. That’s ultimately what led me to choose paid media.
Choosing a path that wasn’t part of my original plan taught me that growth doesn’t always follow a straight line. Sometimes the most rewarding careers come from being open to discovering what truly interests you.

Who are you outside of Snaptech?

I’m either a full-time homebody or travelling somewhere new; there’s really no in between. I love hunting for flight deals, even when I don’t actually have plans to travel. I also enjoy helping friends plan their trips, which is probably why I’m the go-to person whenever someone needs help finding a great airfare deal ;).

Andrea Anguas, SEO Specialist

Andrea is one of our more recent hires, but hit the ground running from day one. She’s always willing to step up and learn how things are done at Snaptech, while also bringing years of expertise to the table.

What made you want to work in marketing?

Marketing found me through my curiosity for the digital world. I’ve always been fascinated by how information spreads and why certain brands feel like ‘friends’ while others don’t. That interest naturally led me to SEO; knowing that people ‘Google’ their questions and needs all day, every day, I knew that mastering search was the most powerful way to connect brands with their audience.

Who are you outside of Snaptech?

Outside of the office, I’m a big believer in staying active, mostly so I can fully enjoy my passion for food without any regrets! I’m happiest when I’m travelling, embracing the beach lifestyle, or spending time with my dogs and family. For me, it’s all about finding that perfect balance in life.

Sophie Allen, Content Manager & Senior SEO Strategist

It’s hard to write about myself in this blog and not turn it into a joke, especially when having the opportunity to add myself to this list of incredible women. I’m the word gremlin, the one working behind the scenes to get blogs up twice a month (often writing, always editing), bringing you the sassy year-end SEO recaps, and the one who will tell you if you’re not getting enough protein or water.

What made you want to work in marketing?

My background is in Fine Arts and fitness, but I’ve been writing since I was about six years old. I’ve always wanted to be paid for my writing, so when the opportunity to be a content writer came up, I leapt on it. From there, SEO naturally followed, and I’ve managed to weasel my way into being in charge of the blogs to have some creative fun. I think if someone had told me that SEO was a lot like doing puzzles and playing detective, I’d have tried it out a lot sooner.

Who are you outside of Snaptech?

I am constantly on the move when I’m not working, either in the gym, out on a walk, or travelling. I like to pretend I’m going to cafes to work on my writing, but really, I’m trying all the Spanish lattes I can get my hands on. I’ve recently gotten really into fighting games and have a goal to rank competitively in the ones I play, which might help me learn to sit still once in a while.

The Final Word

When it comes to all of the women who work at Snaptech, I could hype them up for ages, but I thought it would mean a bit more coming from someone with more authority. After consulting with the others for their thoughts on whether or not to bring any of the guys into a blog about us, we agreed that the best person to deliver the final word about us would be our Director of Operations, Jeremy.

“The women of Snaptech bring an incredible level of care and passion to their roles and the work that we do here. Each of them brings something different to the team, but collectively they are a huge part of what makes us a great company. From the high-quality work to their sense of humour and contributions to our team culture, Snaptech would not be the great place to work that it is without each of their individual contributions and personalities. I personally value greatly each of the personal and professional relationships I have developed from working with them.”

So there you have it; we’re awesome.

The Actual Final Word

In a world where women’s rights and basic autonomy come under fire way more often than makes sense for the year we’re living in, where even our greatest achievements can be picked apart, we survive by lifting each other up, rather than tearing down. This International Women’s Day, heck, this year and beyond, be a girl’s girl. Life isn’t a competition, and no one succeeds unless we all do.

I hope that every woman, no matter where she is in the world, knows that she is valued and her contributions are appreciated. Unless you’re Pam Bondi or Kristi Noem, then you should rethink your life choices.
