Instagram Introduces In-App Shopping
Share More Information about Your Product and Facilitate Purchases
Instagram Business recently announced that they will be introducing an in-app shopping experience for its users. Businesses are still able to post a photo and caption, but there are added features. When a user taps the photo, tags will appear to provide more information on up to five products in the photo. Clicking on one tag provides even more information about one particular product. If the user likes the product, they can press a ‘shop now’ button which prompts the business website to pop up within the app. You will no longer lose a prospect shopper by asking them to open your website in a browser because they are now able to make purchases within the app.
Nurture Consumers in the Awareness Stage
Most marketing platforms are concerned with converting users to generate a lead or sale, but Instagram’s shopping feature is intended to nurture people in the awareness stage of the buying process. Their rationale is that only 21% of purchases are made within the same day. Most of the time, people want to research and learn about a product before making a purchase. By allowing businesses to include more information about the product in a user-friendly way, Instagram is helping shoppers make a more informed decision before they proceed to the checkout page.
