Web Site Design Firm in Vancouver Discusses Link Building Strategy With Yahoo Pipes

This week Snaptech sponsored the Vancouver SEM Meetup Group. I made a quick presentation on link building and, among the things that were cut short of time, I didn't have enough time to thoroughly go over what I think is an interesting idea for link building, Yahoo Pipes!
Combining Yahoo! Pipes and social media forums like LinkedIn and Yahoo! Answers can be a great source of inspiration for link building, leads and overall information.
Yahoo! Pipes is complicated, I'm not going to lie here, but here's a step by step guide on how I use it. (Hint: It's great for incorporating into a social media strategy!)
The Idea and Scenario

Yahoo! Pipes allow you to manipulate information on the web. In this case we want to use it compile information through RSS and filter it using our related keywords.
Let's say, for instance, we are a software company promoting our new inventory software. We want to see questions that include "inventory software" to get ideas and answer them.
The Pipes Setup
The first time you login to Yahoo! Pipes you'll be overwhelmed - for sure.
But in our basic case we just want to use two simple modules: Fetch Feed and Filter.

These will give us the information we want so we can later filter it.
Fetch the Feeds
The Fetch Feed module is for, well, fetching (getting) the RSS feeds. Most sites out there have RSS feeds you can pull and drop into this box.
Here are the feeds I'll get for this example.
- I'll get RSS feeds from LinkeIn Answer categories.
- Yahoo! Answers allow you to pull an RSS from a search you have performed.
- Reddit, the technology category.
- Youtube, also allows you to pull an RSS from a search.

Filter the Results
This module acts like a Google Analytics Include or Exclude filter. An include means only that information that matches the filter, is allowed through.
So I'm going filter the results looking for those questions or posts that include "inventory software" in them.
You then connect all the modules, literally, so that all the information flows through.

Getting the Results
After you've done all your Pipe settings, name it, save it, and click on Run Pipe on the top of the screen.
You'll be able to see the Pipe's Results and get yet another RSS with the information provided.
Place this into your Google Reader or any other RSS fetcher and, voila!, you now have up to date questions to answer and link building ideas.

Say you find an interesting result you think you can add value. Give a valuable teaser and lure them to your site. Once there you'll get the well-deserved links from people genuinely interested in your wise words.
This idea is still underdeveloped, if you have any ideas to make it bigger or better - post a comment let us know your angle on it!
