Today, Google officially announced the launch of their new search engine system, Caffeine, through a post on Google's Webmaster's Central Blog .
Talks about a new indexing system for Google have been around since August of 2009. First through last year's preview launch for developers and then through a blog post by Matt Cutts, the public authority for Google in these matters.
Google is always updating their search engine in order to make searches more relevant to us, the users. They do this perhaps every day without telling anyone. However, every now and then they make a big change; these are the ones they let people know.
The latest major change is called Caffeine. This improvement does not technically build over the old system. Caffeine is a completely new system. Google claims it "provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches than our last index, and it's the largest collection of web content we've offered."
What Changed In Google's System?
Google's illustration depicts the new change very nicely:

Before, Google's indexing system would be more like a cake. Every time they made an update, either big or small, they would add a new filter on top of the whole system.
Now, Caffeine divides the web into more manageable sections allowing the system to process information much, much faster.
The essence of how search engines look and find information is still the same though. It's magic's in the mix - I'm sure that there's a saying like that.
Have you noticed any difference in your search results lately?
