Website Designers Vancouver Compare SEO Cockpit And authority Labs

Posted by: Jose U. on 6/1/2010 7:00:43 PM

A few weeks ago I decided to compare two simple ranking and backlink data monitoring tools, SEO Cockpit and AuthorityLabs.

After using AuthorityLabs for a while, I decided to try a different tool that provided the same simple and information I was looking for, enter SEO Cockpit.

Since taking the first look at it I was hesitant to try SEO Cockpit because they don't have an address or phone number to contact them on their website. No contact phone? Hello there, red flag. But, what the heck, it was $10 for the basic subscription and tried it for comparison's sake.

The result? Straight forward

AuthorityLabs :

SEO Cockpit:

Let's take a look at some of the things that stood out for me.

SEO Cockpit Support - Worst Ever

SEO Cockpit has the worst service I have ever experienced. Here are a few beyond bad things I experienced.

There is no obvious way to cancel your account. Instead, you have to submit a support ticket. Then you'll get an email saying that there's a reply to your ticket. Then you access your support ticket and they'll say you have to send an email to cancel@clickbank.com. And that's complete BS.

The system did not lett me update our account profile. I couldn't change email addresses or usernames.

The only way of communication is through submitting a support ticket. That was fine about 15 years ago. But not even an email address? Hello there, red flag. They're not on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn.

AuthorityLabs Support - Good

Last month AuthorityLabs had some problems. They were quick to post everything on their blog and even replied to a personal tweet on a blog post asking about the situation. That's not only good support, is what most people in our industry expect.

SEO Cockpit Data Accuracy - Not Reliable

Reported rankings on SEO Cockpit were off, by a lot. I compared them to AuthorityLabs and checked manually - they were off, sometimes by as much as 30 positions.

AuthorityLabs Data Accuracy - Reliable

Though no reporting tool is 100% accurate, I'm pleased with AuthorityLab's numbers. In our case, they're pretty close when compared to those checked manually.

SEO Cockpit Reports - Average

The PDF Reports are not bad, but they're definition of "Brandable" is very different from what I believe most people have in mind. There's no option to brand the document with your company name or logo. Instead, the site in question is bolded at the top of the document.

AuthorityLab's Reports - Good

I like AuthorityLabs' reports because they are in line with the product, they're simple. We still use other reporting tools and keep trying new ones. For us, AuthorityLabs' reporting is mainly for our in-house guidance and trends rather than client reporting.

Conclusion

Ultimately, it's not about the tools, it's about how you use them. But in my particular case, SEO Cockpit delivered a horrible experience. The contrast with AuthorityLabs, which has been pretty good till now, made it even worse. When AuthorityLabs rolled out backlink tracking, the meaning of the experiment was gone.

In terms of pricing, SEO Cockpit is very affordable. AuthorityLabs, on the other hand, takes more coins to maintain, but in our case, is worth it.

Tell us your experience with these tools!

@Dan What do you mean? authorityLabs already does that... in fact, that''s what they''ve been doing since the beginning.

i''m anxiously awaiting authoritylabs feature of being able to track keywords and multiple competitors, ie. to see a keyword for many domains, over time.
