Sitemaps are the most accepted way of organizing and presenting information to both people and search engines.
You've probably seen an HTML sitemap while browsing a site – it's usually a list of all available pages available to the visitor. An XML sitemap, however, is mainly for search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing.com to understand and organize your site and not visible to the typical user.
